Puerto Plata: Where is it? 

Puerto Plata is located on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic and there are two major airports near the city. The most popular airport for travelers looking to visit the area is Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP) located just east of Puerto Plata City and west of Sosua. The second airport is Cibao International Airport (STI) which is about an hour south of Puerto Plata City.

The Puerto Plata region is also famous for its Damajaqua Cascades, aka the Twenty Seven Waterfalls of Rio Damajagua, an amazing natural treasure where travelers can jump, swim, repel and explore the 27 natural pools and 12 onsite waterfalls. Of course, Puerto Plata is also popular for its stunning beaches, the most adored of which is Playa Dorada (Golden Beach), a fun area located on the east side of town where visitors can relax in the sand, play a round of golf or enjoy a few cocktails in the sun.

For a touch of history don’t miss Fort San Felipe, the area’s only remaining colonial structure and one of the Americas’ first European forts.
