Travel insights from Kati Kohler, ad traffic coordinator at VAX VacationAccess

My First Industry Event: ASTA Global Convention

I attended my first agent event this week in Fort Lauderdale, the ASTA Global Convention. As an ad trafficker for VAX, I work with suppliers every day to help them market their brands to our agents using content, banner ads and emails. Because of the nature of my job, I don’t have a lot of contact with travel agents, despite thinking about them all day long!

I didn’t really know what to expect but I was excited to have some conversations with agents and learn what all the hype was about. I quickly learned how fun and lively the bunch was and how much fun we were going to have, starting with the Welcome Reception Sunday night where we dressed in our derby best, big hats and all! Monday came and started with the opening session, education blocks and lunch and learn sessions.

In the afternoon I helped at the VAX trade show booth with our brand new trade show display with BDM Beth and saw “the vision in orange” work her magic.

I had the honor to attend the ASTA Advocacy Dinner & Reception and was able to connect with more agents. I could really feel how close the ASTA community was and how much it meant to the attendees. Tuesday came around and we listened to more inspiring speakers, learned about popular destinations and ate more delicious food. We had a few more hours of trade show before we wrapped up with the closing session.

I was so honored to attend the 2019 ASTA Global Convention this year and am so grateful to our travel agents and the positive and fun energy they bring to the industry.
