The Dominican Republic is Reopening to Travelers July 1

Another major Caribbean destination is opening to visitors. On July 1, the Dominican Republic is projected to enter phase 4 of its de-escalation process to reopen the country, which will reactivate tourism, opening hotels, airports, gyms and restaurants.

The Punta Cana International Airport has put in preventive measures to create a safe environment for travelers and employees. Some of those measures include:

  • Providing hand sanitizing stations throughout the airport and on the bus
  • Thermal scanning and heat motion sensors on travelers and employees in the airport
  • Encouraging social distancing throughout the airport and on the bus
  • Making it mandatory for airport staff to wear masks and gloves
  • Implementing new disinfection and hygiene protocols throughout the airport and on the bus

The Santo Domingo, Samana and Puerto Plata airports have also implemented new safety and hygiene measures. An important thing to note is that only people wearing masks will be allowed into the terminals.

Many resorts in the DR are ready to reopen July 1, including some properties from Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts, Melia Hotels and AMResorts.
