Beginning in 2026, travelers will have more ways to explore iconic destinations around the globe with AmaWaterways as the brand launches two new state-of-the-art river ships: AmaKaia, which will sail the Mekong River, and AmaSofia on the Rhine and Danube Rivers. The new vessels are expected to hit the water on August 3, 2026, and May 24, 2026, respectively, and will feature the upscale amenities travelers have come to expect from the cruise line including fine dining options, daily small group excursions, an onsite Wellness Program and more.

AmaSofia will be AmaWaterways’ 24th ship to sail on Europe’s most popular rivers, and its inaugural 14-night journey, fittingly named “Magnificent Europe,” will travel from Amsterdam to Budapest. On this exciting itinerary, travelers will follow in the footsteps of former emperors, kings and queens, traversing three rivers and four countries along the way. “Magnificent Europe” will present guests with opportunities to immerse themselves in local culture, history, food and traditions with a few highlights including bike rides through scenic vineyards, visits to local bakeries, tours of castles and palaces and more. Beyond its inaugural adventure, AmaSofia will have 31 departures in 2026, many of which are on the Danube, including “Melodies of the Danube,” “Romantic Danube” and “Christmas Markets on the Danube.”

Come summer, AmaKaia will embark on its first seven-night itinerary on August 3, 2026. During this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, sailors will experience the ancient cultures of Vietnam and Cambodia as they sample local delicacies, enjoy regional onboard entertainment and embark on daily excursions. Speaking of excursions, travelers looking to explore can choose from traditional “xe-loi” (trishaw) rides, a Buddhist Blessing Ceremony, attend local workshops, visit monasteries and more. After its inaugural journey, AmaKaia will offer two seven-night itineraries “Charms of the Mekong” and “Riches of the Mekong.” AmaKaia will embark on 22 sailings in 2026 and 38 in 2027.
