As 2024 draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the destinations that have captured my heart throughout the year. Among the many remarkable places I’ve visited, one stands out above the rest — the Seychelles. This Indian Ocean paradise, situated off the east coast of Africa, offers an idyllic escape with its lush landscapes, white sandy beaches and vibrant marine life. After our first exploration of this incredible archipelago, it’s time to delve deeper into the hidden gems and unforgettable experiences that make the Seychelles an ultimate tropical dream.

Praslin: A Jewel in the Heart of the Seychelles

Praslin, the second-largest island in the Seychelles, is often referred to as the "Garden of Eden." Despite its modest size of about 14 square miles, Praslin offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage and adventure. This lush paradise is home to the famous Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where visitors can wander among towering palms and unique plant species, including the world-renowned Coco de Mer palm.

The Coco de Mer is the national fruit of the Seychelles and one of the most intriguing sights on the island. Known for its enormous seeds — considered the largest in the plant kingdom — this tree can grow up to 30 meters tall, far surpassing its relative, the coconut tree. The seeds of the Coco de Mer take decades to ripen, with the maturation process taking anywhere from 25 to 50 years. These giant seeds are edible, though they are more commonly used to create beautiful hand-crafted vessels by local artisans.

Beyond the verdant landscapes, Praslin offers some of the most picturesque beaches in the Seychelles, such as Anse Lazio, where turquoise waters meet powdery white sand. Whether you're snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs or simply soaking up the sun, Praslin’s beaches promise serenity and beauty in equal measure.

Platte Island: Exclusivity in the Heart of Nature

For those seeking exclusivity and a taste of pure luxury, Platte Island is a must-visit. This remote paradise can only be reached by small charter plane, landing on a private runway, ensuring that the island remains an intimate sanctuary for those fortunate enough to visit. The Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island is the epitome of luxury and tranquility, offering a seamless blend of natural beauty and opulence.

The resort’s villas provide breathtaking views, each with its own private garden and direct beach access. Every corner of this resort is designed with comfort and privacy in mind, making it the perfect destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The architecture blends harmoniously with the island’s natural surroundings, creating a seamless connection with the lush environment.

The Waldorf Astoria is also committed to sustainability, ensuring that its operations support the conservation of the island’s ecosystems. From sourcing locally grown ingredients to minimizing waste and energy consumption, the resort actively contributes to preserving both land and sea wildlife, helping maintain the delicate balance of the Seychelles' environment for future generations.

La Digue: A Step Back in Time

A short ferry ride from Praslin will take you to La Digue, a quaint island that promises a slower pace of life. With a population of just 3,000, La Digue has no cities or towns, and cars are notably absent. The island’s charm lies in its simplicity — getting around is best done by foot, bicycle or electric cart. Here, visitors can explore pristine beaches, lush forests and dramatic granite boulders, which form the island’s iconic landscape.

One of the island’s biggest draws is the chance to encounter the Giant Aldabra Tortoises, some of the largest and longest-living creatures on Earth. These slow-moving, gentle giants are a symbol of the Seychelles’ rich biodiversity. Visiting them in their natural habitat is an experience that evokes a sense of humility and awe, reminding us of the importance of conservation.

Another unmissable experience on La Digue is kayaking in the crystal-clear waters. Crystalwater Kayaks offers the opportunity to glide across the shimmering turquoise seas in a transparent hull kayak, providing an unparalleled view of the island's stunning coastline and vibrant marine life. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful solo adventure or a fun family outing, this unique perspective of La Digue’s waters is a must-try.

A Sanctuary of Natural Wonders

The Seychelles archipelago consists of 115 islands, each offering its own distinct allure. From the exclusive, luxury-filled Platte Island to the laid-back charm of La Digue, the diversity of these islands makes the Seychelles a true paradise for travelers of all kinds. The archipelago is home to rich wildlife, including rare bird species, lush forests and coral reefs teeming with marine life. The natural beauty is awe-inspiring, and the opportunity to explore such an unspoiled part of the world is a rare privilege.

The Seychelles also offers a range of experiences that allow travelers to connect with nature, from hiking in the jungle-like forests to snorkeling in crystal-clear waters and diving among vibrant coral reefs. For nature lovers and adventure seekers alike, the Seychelles provides a perfect balance of relaxation and exploration.

An Experience to Remember

Whether you're visiting the stunning beaches of Praslin, experiencing the exclusivity of Platte Island or exploring the serene beauty of La Digue, the Seychelles offers an unforgettable tropical experience. The combination of natural beauty, luxury and a commitment to conservation makes this archipelago a destination like no other.
