You just got back from a FAM. You posted a few photos, maybe a quick room tour, and by the end of the week your feed is back to normal. The trip that took real time, money and energy to attend just got you about three days of content, and now the well is dry until your next trip.
Here is the mindset shift that changes that. A FAM trip should not fund only one week of content. It should fund months of it. The advisors who get the most out of these trips are not the ones who traveled the most or stayed at the fanciest property. They are the ones who treated the trip like content infrastructure before they ever packed a bag.
Here is how to actually do that.
Prep a Content Plan Before You Go (Even a Small One)
You do not need a full production schedule with a shot-by-shot breakdown. What you do need is enough direction that you are not standing in a hotel lobby trying to figure out what to film on the spot. Before you leave, spend ten minutes putting together a simple shot list. Lobby, room, pool, one excursion, the breakfast spread, whatever is relevant to that specific property, ship or destination. Save a few visual ideas from Pinterest or Instagram if you need inspiration for how to frame a shot or start a video. And write down two or three talking points you already know you want to cover, like what room category is worth the upgrade or who this resort is actually a good fit for.
That ten to fifteen minutes of prep is the difference between coming home with a random collection of pretty photos and coming home with content that actually has a purpose.
Know the Content Buckets Before You Land
One trip can produce far more content than most advisors realize, but only if they know what to look for while they are there. Think of your FAM footage in buckets instead of one big pile:
- Destination knowledge, like what to book and what to skip
- Client questions you can now answer from firsthand experience
- Myth versus reality about the destination, ship or resort
- Behind the scenes or a day in the life while you are there
- Comparison content, this resort versus that one
- Social proof and selling content, once you have built trust with the other content first
If you go into the trip already thinking in these categories, you will naturally capture footage for all six without much extra effort. That one trip just became six different content angles instead of one.
Stretch It Over Weeks and Months, Not Days
During the trip or once you are home, resist the urge to post everything right away. Instead, pull one piece of content from each bucket and space it out over the following weeks. One myth versus reality post this week, a client question answered next week, a comparison post the week after. Stretched out fully, six buckets of content can easily carry you two to three months if you are not rushing to post everything at once. This is what turns a single trip into an ongoing content source instead of one big content dump followed by silence.
Build a Content Bank, Not a One-Time Post
Every FAM you attend should be adding to a content bank you can pull from long after the trip ends. Footage from a FAM two years ago should still be usable today if you captured it with that in mind. Save your clips in folders by destination or resort so you can find them later, and think beyond your next post. That video of the pool at sunrise is not just for this month. It might be exactly what you need eight months from now when a client asks about that same resort or you need an aesthetic video for a simple, relatable video.
Sometimes You Have To Sacrifice a Little Time To Get It
This is the part no one loves to hear, but it matters. The best content does not usually happen in the middle of the day when the pool deck is packed and the lobby is full of other guests. It happens early, before the resort or ship fills up. Waking up an hour before everyone else to grab a quiet pool shot, an empty lobby walkthrough, or a clean beach clip is not extra work tacked onto your trip. It is the work.
The good news is that hour is usually all it takes. Once you have that footage, the rest of your day is yours to actually enjoy the trip, and any natural, in the moment content you pick up along the way is a bonus on top of what you already secured.
One Trip, Months of Content
A FAM does not have to be a one time content moment that fades after a week. With a little prep before you go, a clear sense of the content buckets available to you, a plan to stretch it out and a willingness to trade an hour of sleep for quiet footage, one trip can fuel months of content that keeps working long after you are home!
