This season of The Bachelorette got a little intense, so let’s take it down a notch and focus on a more fun side of the show: the travel! Hannah and her bachelors have done plenty of globetrotting. Here are 6 destinations they’ve visited, plus a few popular hotels amongst travel agents in each one.
1. Newport, Rhode Island
Early in the season, Hannah takes the men to the city of Newport, Rhode Island. Though it’s not the first destination you’d think of for a romantic getaway, The Bachelorette producers sometimes visit a seemingly random domestic destination before going all out (remember when Arie and his ladies went to Ft. Lauderdale?). Anyway, they chose Newport this season which is a breezy little coastal city set on Aquideck Island. The men played rugby at Fort Adams State Park, a cool historical site where you can take tours and enjoy great views of Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. Hannah and Tyler went on a one-on-one date where they fished for lobster and visited the historic White Horse Tavern.
Newport is just under an hour away from Providence, the biggest airport in the state, and there are some pretty cool hotels there. Wyndham Inn on the Harbor is just where you’d imagine it – on the water, making for great views from your room. Hampton Inn Suites Newport Middletown is another good pick in Newport, just two miles from the historic downtown district and local beaches.
2. Boston
While everyone was in Newport, Hannah whisked the always-guitar-wielding Jed to Boston. Again, a bit of a random choice if you’re looking for a romantic destination, but still a really cool city to visit. Hannah gave a cute improv city tour to Jed (not sure if he enjoyed it or not, but who cares about him!), as they hit up some classic Boston landmarks: the Cheers bar, Quincy Market and Boston Common. They also played basketball with two of the Boston Celtics who gave her dating advice for some reason?
Back to the travel. Boston has SO many hotel options, so here are some in the areas Hannah and Jed visited that are popular with agents on VAX. Omni Parker House is a member of the Historic Hotels of America and is within walking distance to Boston Common, Granary Burying Ground and many other landmarks on the Freedom Trail. The Fairmont Copley Plaza opened in 1912 and embodies the history of Boston. Not only is it close to historic sites, it’s near the luxury shopping on Newbury Street. The Ames Boston Hotel is part of the Curio Collection by Hilton and is super close to Boston City Hall and the Financial District. The historic building is sleek and modern on the inside with great views of the Boston skyline.
3. Scotland
Hannah and her men finally go international and end up in Scotland. They stay in a few different castles throughout the Scottish highlands, but those aren’t as accessible as we wish they were. So let’s take a look at some interesting hotels in Inverness. The Best Western Plus Inverness Lochardil House Hotel has quite a long name, yes, and it’s located on secluded grounds that may feel far away from it all, but is really only 1.5 miles from the city center. Try to book a room in the garden wing – it’ll be worth it. At Kingsmills Hotel Inverness, you’ll be next to a golf course and a quick drive to Inverness Castle, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery and Eastgate Shopping Centre. Choose from rooms with a patio, garden view or with room for a family. Or check out the Loch Ness Cottages for a private cottage experience. Each one is set in its own private garden with views of Loch Ness – you may even catch a sight of the elusive Loch Ness monster!
4. Latvia
Hannah leaves the Luke-on-Luke drama in Scotland (kind of) and takes her men to Riga, the seaside capital of Latvia. They all stay at the Pullman Hotel. Though that property is not currently bookable on VAX, here are some that are. Grand Palace Hotel is in the heart of Riga and has modern, updated décor, three restaurants and a convenient location near Riga Castle and Three Brothers, the oldest dwelling houses in the city. Dome Hotel is a luxury hotel in a renovated 17th-century landmark building on a charming side street in the Old Town of Riga.
5. The Netherlands
Next up for Hannah and her suitors, The Netherlands. There are tulips, horseback riding, pickled herring, a self-elimination from Connor (I chose him to win in my Bachelorette bracket – dangit!), an awkward portrait-drawing date (what??) and some self-reflection from a crying Hannah as she peruses art in a museum with a gorgeous glass elevator (girl, are you ok? It turns out, she wasn’t).
It’s not clear where they stay in the Netherlands, but I’m pretty sure they start in Amsterdam. The Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is a seriously amazing hotel and a traveler favorite. The property combines six 17th- and 18th-century canal palaces, giving the hotel a truly rich history. The accommodations overlook the canals and the private garden and guests can use the hotel’s complimentary bicycles to explore the city. You may think I’m including Pillows Anna van den Vondel Amsterdam because of its quirky name, but the Pillows Hotels brand is really cool. Their properties in The Netherlands and Belgium are beautifully decorated and exactly the kind of vibe I like on vacation. Anyway, their Amsterdam hotel is modern and airy yet cozy, and puts you close to great landmarks like the Van Gogh Museum and Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s biggest park.
6. Greece
Wow, it feels like Hannah and her men have been on the road for so long! And it looks like they’ve reached their final destination: the incredible island of Crete. Sorry, you can't book the windmill that Hannah and Peter the Pilot enjoyed, but Crete still has some cool spots. Like Paradise Island Villas, where all 12 of the rooms have either a furnished balcony or patio, and guests can get to Star Beach Water Park and Crete Golf Club in 10 minutes (driving). For a city feel, check out GDM Megaron Historical Monument Hotel where you’ll be close to Heraklion Archaeological Museum, Heraklion Port, the Natural History Museum of Crete and Palace of Knossos. If you need more Greek inspo, we’ve got a list of six more great hotel picks.
See? It’s not hard and doesn’t even have to be that expensive to travel like our favorite Bachelorette, Hannah. Hopefully all of these travels have helped her gain the clarity she needs to choose the right guy for her forever. And I really hope it’s not the guitar-wielding one.
