The Vibe
Is Cheas Hotel is the type of place a writer would retreat to to finish their book, but it’s also the type of stay that families can enjoy the outdoors with plenty of space. Set in the countryside of Sardinia, yet a short distance from beaches, the boutique farm hotel is nestled amongst vineyards, as the property makes its own wine. To enter the property, you must drive around the vineyards to reach a discreet entrance, then walk through a lush path to the communal pool, which is situated next to the hotel’s lobby and restaurant. You’ll pass by adorable huts on the walk. If you’re staying in one of the farmhouse lodges, you’ll walk further along the path, near the stables. The vibe here is agrotourism, sustainability, eco-friendly and calm. The guests who stay here are looking for a boutique environment that is discreet, unique, outdoorsy and authentic. It’s perfect for couples and families.
How I Felt
Relaxed.
This place is all about enjoying nature and your surroundings, with minimal effort required to dress or follow a strict regimen. There are beautiful plants surrounding the rooms, and it’s nice to stroll through the grounds to observe the flowers, wildlife and occasionally spot the resident cats.
The Digs
There are two room styles: lodges with private gardens, heated swimming pools and outdoor showers, and Pinnette Suites, which also offer private gardens and heated swimming pools but are designed in traditional Sardinian architecture, with circular forms and thatched roofs. Inside, the interiors feature minimal design elements but are modern and clutter-free, with a colorful painting and accent pillows.
The Agenda
Since the hotel is not in a city and requires a drive to reach a mid-sized town, I suggest enjoying what the property has to offer during your stay. The perfect itinerary would be to enjoy breakfast, go on a horse-riding adventure, relax by the communal pool or your private pool, attend a wine tour and tasting or partake in a cooking class before indulging in a tasting-menu dinner.
The Eats
I recommend eating dinner on property as it is a bit of a drive to nearby restaurants. Is Cheas Restaurant offers a large breakfast spread with a variety of delicious options, including the option to order made-to-order dishes. Lunch can be enjoyed poolside or in the restaurant, while dinner is best indoors and features à la carte and tasting menus with vegetarian options. I enjoyed the marinated mullet, rocket salad and fruit gel as well as the beetroot carpaccio with hard-boiled egg yolk, pistachio and turmeric mayonnaise. Of course, being a wine estate, local wines can be paired with each course.
Why I Would Go Back
I’d return for the privacy and peacefulness. It was a wonderful place to relax, recalibrate and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.
