With the new school year upon us, parents (and grandparents), are back into more of a daily schedule. Part of working from home is being able to set your schedule and work on your terms, but a lot of times we mismanage that privilege. I find that when I have more of a schedule, like getting my son to school on time, I am more productive.

Let’s talk about time management. This is a skill travel advisors need because if we squander too much of our time, we miss out on things we could be doing to build our businesses.

It's not about "finding" time, it's about "making" time for the tasks you need to do.

Understanding the Concept of Time Management

Make Time, Don’t Find It

The idea that you can "find" time is a myth. Instead, you must intentionally carve out time in your schedule for what you need to accomplish. Reflect on your priorities and allocate specific time slots for essential tasks.

Identify your time wasters by acknowledging activities that consume your time without adding value. For instance, aimless scrolling on your phone can detract from productive work hours. It’s important to monitor how you spend your time and eliminate distractions.

Set Intentional Goals

As you plan for the end of the year, think about what you want to achieve in these last few months. Set clear, actionable goals that align with your vision and focus on quality over quantity. You don’t have to do everything; concentrate on what will bring the most business for you.

Then take those goals and put time on the calendar to do the tasks needed to achieve them.  Schedule specific times for important tasks, such as client follow-ups, marketing initiatives or personal development. Just like you would schedule family events, make sure to prioritize your business tasks.

Create Productive Routines

Identify your most productive hours and capitalize on them. For me, I like to wake up earlier to work on my business when distractions are minimal. Another tip is to plan your week at the beginning of each week by outlining tasks and allocating time blocks for each one. This helps ensure that you stay on track and focused. Finally, use tools like calendars or planners to visualize your week and identify any gaps.

Experiment With New Strategies

Utilize technology by leveraging tools like AI to assist in content creation or scheduling tasks. For example, record a video talking about tips and tricks and then use AI to break it down into multiple social media posts. This approach can save time and maintain your voice in communications.

Reflect on what works and what doesn’t. Don’t hesitate to try new methods and adapt your strategies accordingly.

Effective time management is about intentionality and making time for the tasks that align with your business goals and personal life. As you enter this last part of the year, reflect on your current habits, identify areas for improvement and implement these strategies to enhance your productivity. Your schedule is yours to control, so make the most of it.
