Located oceanfront on Maui’s world-famous Kā‘anapali Beach, “Hawai‘i’s Most Hawaiian Hotel” welcomes guests with authentic Hawaiian hospitality. Full-time Hawaiian cultural advisors share insight about the islands by hosting complimentary Hawaiian cultural activities and demonstrations including hula lessons, ukulele playing, Hawaiian language lessons and more. The hotel surroundings provide a relaxed and true Hawaiian atmosphere with Native Hawaiian foliage, activities, art, Hawaiian tools and implements. Guests can enjoy ocean adventures such as snorkeling, paddle-boarding and canoe tours at the Hotel’s ocean activity center, Hale Huaka‘i. Upon departure, guests can take part in the hotel’s farewell lei kukui ceremony, providing the perfect ending to a Maui getaway.

In 2020, the hotel announced the “Kealaula” property enhancement project. The Kealaula Project will unveil transformative enhancements including the following elements:

  • significant redesign to the 180-room Papakū South Wing (formerly known as the Kaua‘i Wing) and the 84-room Kauhale Southeast Wing (formerly known as the Lāna‘i wing)
  • a refresh of the sweeping courtyard including the introduction of additional native Hawaiian plants
  • the launch of a new oceanfront restaurant, Huihui
  • an additional floor of parking

Functioning more as a renewal rather than renovation, “Kealaula,” means the light of early dawn and the glow of sunset. At both times, the sky is bathed in rosy hues which accompany the end of one day and beginning of the next. This cyclical event relates to the beauty and essence initially established during the hotel’s previous chapter which will be renewed and celebrated again as the property transforms. Though the array of colors and elements will be different, the beauty of the Kealaula will bring forth the same emotions and memories from the past.

Each premium room within the Papakū South Wing and Kauhale Southeast Wing will be upgraded and infused with new and modern design elements and features, while still retaining a strong sense of Hawaiian culture. Exuding an earthy feel with muted palettes, each enhanced guest room will feature employee made mea makamae shadow boxes including mākau (fishhooks), lūhe‘e (octopus lure), lei kūpe‘e and lei pipipi (nerite lei) and mea kaua (weapons).

Huihui, the hotel’s new signature restaurant, is themed around the incredible accomplishment of Hawaiian navigation and will feature a unique space to house a new Hawaiian sailing canoe. Functioning as a gathering place, the 5,000 square foot venue will serve as a relaxing dining experience with unobstructed ocean views as well as serve as an extension of the properties’ canoeing programs with the eventual addition of a sailing academy.

The three elements are slated for completion in early 2021. Traditional rooms in the Wēkiu East Wing (formerly known as the Maui Wing) and the Aouli North Wing (formerly known as the Moloka‘i Wing) remain available for reservations as well as dining outlets Tiki Terrace and the Grab N Go.

Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel was also recognized in HAWAII Magazine’s 2020 8th annual Readers’ Choice Awards. Kaanapali Beach Hotel ranked number one on Maui across seven categories ranging from “Best Hotel/Resort with Aloha Spirit” to “Best Buffet” and “Best Hotel/Resort Staff.” Adding to its extensive list of honors, the hotel was also acknowledged across six additional categories for Maui including “Best Hotel/Resort for Families,” “Best Hotel/Resort Guest Services Program” and “Best Resort for A Wedding.”
