How is it possible to have a successful travel agency business when life feels like a whirlwind?

That’s a question many of us wrestle with, especially when juggling full-time jobs, families and the daily curveballs life throws our way.

Here’s the truth: no one has unlimited time. We’re all busy. Whether you’re a parent shuttling kids to sports, working another job or just trying to keep up with everyday responsibilities, it’s easy to feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day.

But building a business — especially one as rewarding as travel — requires intention, not perfection.

Remember Why You Started

In my office hangs a simple sign that reads: “Remember why you started.”

That reminder has helped center me during chaotic seasons. I began this business for a reason. And when life pulls me in every direction, I remind myself that my business deserves time and attention too.

If I want it to grow, I can’t leave it at the bottom of the priority list.

Build In Accountability

The biggest advice I can offer is to find a way to hold yourself accountable. That starts with a clear, realistic plan.

Think about tasks like:

  • Marketing and outreach
  • Client follow-ups and communications
  • Booking and administrative systems
  • Financial tracking and accounting
  • Ongoing education or training

Without a plan, it’s easy to let these pile up — and that’s where the overwhelm kicks in.

Create a System That Works for You

Be honest with yourself.

Are you the kind of person who buys a planner every year with high hopes … only to abandon it a few weeks later? You’re not alone.

It’s not a lack of motivation — it’s often a mismatch between expectations and personality.

Ask yourself:

  • Would it work better to dedicate one focused day each week to business tasks?
  • Do you need 15-30 minutes each day to stay on top of things?
  • Would setting weekly goals or using digital tools help you stay consistent?

Whatever system you choose, it must be realistic and sustainable. Otherwise, you’ll fall off track, get discouraged and stall.

Choose Your Starting Path: Baby Steps for Every Advisor

No matter your style, there’s a way to keep moving forward. Find the approach that fits you best and take the first step!

The Itinerary Over-Planner

You love mapping everything out but get stuck in the planning phase. Try this:

  • Set a 15-minute timer
  • Do one task — send a follow-up, update your profile or post on social
  • Progress beats perfection

The Travel Coordinator

You love structure and thrive with checklists. Try this:

  • Schedule a weekly “power hour”
  • Use a checklist for admin, marketing and follow-up
  • Track it in your planner or a tool like Asana or Trello

The Bucket List Dreamer

You’re full of ideas — but need help getting started. Try this:

  • Choose one big dream
  • Break it into 3 mini-steps
  • Complete the first step today

The On-the-Go Globetrotter

You’re balancing work, family and everything else. Try this:

  • Pick one 5-to-10-minute task you can do daily
  • Stack it into your routine (after coffee, before bed)
  • Small steps = big momentum

There will always be demands on your time. But your business matters — you matter.

When things get crazy, take a deep breath and remember why you started. Then take one small step. And then another.

Just like with any life change — whether it’s a new diet, fitness plan or business goal — if you fall off track, don’t give up. Simply reset, refocus and recommit.

Set aside time for your business and know that it’s worth it. Your future self — and your clients — will thank you.
