I recently visited Cancun for ALGV’s Ascend conference and had the opportunity to stay at the Canopy by Hilton Cancun La Isla prior to the conference. The property opened in early 2020, so I was excited to experience this fresh face on the Cancun strip. The only disappointment of my stay was that I had to check out so soon, and this hotel will definitely be at the top of my list the next time I’m in the area for several reasons. Here’s a quick look at why you should consider this property for yourself or your clients.

1. Location, Location, Location

The Canopy is centrally located in Cancun’s hotel zone directly next to La Isla, which is Cancun’s upscale shopping, dining and entertainment center. Because of this, you’re at a very easy walking distance from a variety of fun options, but if you want to venture further than your feet are ready to take you, just borrow one of the hotel’s flashy orange bicycles or ask the bellman to call a taxi for you. You’ll quickly be wherever you need to go on the strip!

2. One-of-a-Kind Views

At the hotel’s Wander Rooftop, guests are treated to a view like none other. The infinity pool overlooks the Nichupte Lagoon with its famous sunsets, made especially unique by the hotel’s proximity to Cancun’s enormous Sky Wheel. The rooftop’s bar is the icing on the cake with artisanal cocktails and a variety of fresh, local fare to nibble on like ceviche and guacamole.

3. Modernly Mexican Décor

I really loved how the hotel incorporated local culture and art into the common areas. After having stayed at many hotels in the area over the years, I can easily fall into a “been there, done that” rut when I arrive at my room in Cancun, but this time was a little different. The rooms at Canopy La Isla feel both modern and inviting with rich colors and natural wood. The swinging lounge and Nespresso machine were my favorite features.

4. Freedom To Dine as You Wish

Unlike many properties in the area, this hotel is not an all-inclusive resort, so guests feel a bit more free to eat or drink wherever they please. We enjoyed happy hour at the hotel’s rooftop bar and breakfast at Azulinda Café in the lobby the next morning but also found it convenient to venture offsite and try local restaurants for dinner. If I would have been at an all-inclusive resort, I likely never would have walked down the street to experience some of the best handmade pasta I’ve ever sampled.

5. Focus on the Environment

The hotel offers guests a great experience but also takes added steps to minimize its environmental impact. Each room includes glass bottles that guests can easily refill with filtered water, conveniently located on every floor. I didn’t see any single-use plastic products throughout my stay, and there are even electric vehicle recharging stations on property. Bath amenities are in large refillable dispensers instead of small plastic bottles. I realize these features are becoming more commonplace at hotels everywhere, but experiencing them made me feel good about my choice to book my stay at this hotel.

Next time you’re looking for a fresh and fun EP option in Cancun for yourself or a client, I would recommend that you take a closer look at the Canopy La Isla!
