The Vibe
Bajaloglia Resort is where you book for all the perks, AKA an infinity pool, multiple hot tubs, fine dining and epic views, but without the crowds. It’s not because the resort is in the middle of nowhere; it’s because it is so perfectly situated in Castelsardo, Sardinia, with breathtaking sunrise and sunset views of the famous Castello dei Doria. Visiting the historic castle is a must, but parking, the incline and the crowds can make staying there a bit chaotic. The resort is the perfect honeymoon retreat, great for couples, but also best friends or mothers and daughters (the way I experienced it). The vibe here is romantic, calm and picturesque. Guests who stay here are looking for privacy, views and mid-luxury.
How I Felt
Beautiful. I literally felt beautiful because my surroundings were so stunning. It’s hard not to feel like you’re in a dream at this resort. Its hilltop location provides stunning views of the medieval village and the sea.
The Digs
Though the rooms themselves aren’t extremely luxe and have minimal noteworthy design elements, most have balconies or patios. Be sure to request a room with no obstructions or parking to really feel like you’re in a secluded hillside treehouse. The highlights of the resort are an infinity pool and several hidden hot tubs, all with panoramic views. The hotel also has an outdoor bar/terrace, sunloungers on a secluded terrace and an outdoor gym.
The Agenda
Begin the morning with breakfast at the resort. Then take a shuttle or private car to Castello dei Doria to learn about the town’s basket weaving culture. Afterward, stroll throuh the hilly town and chat with local basket weavers sitting at their doorsteps perfecting their craft. They are the last of their generation to maintain this skillset. Stop for a cappuccino or an Aperol spritz, and maybe even have lunch in town before heading back to the resort for a sunset swim.
The Eats
The resort has a bar and a separate restaurant called Ristorante L'Incantu. If there’s one thing you can’t skip while at the resort, it’s the tasting menu dinner. Inspired by the flavors of Sardinia and overlooking the sea and the castle lights at night, this is one of the best meals I had while on the island. As a pescetarian, I was blown away by their seafood dishes. The menu changes frequently, but rest assured, the chef knows what he’s doing.
Why I Would Go Back
I’d return for the photos, the restaurant and to chat with the owners, as it’s a husband-and-wife-owned resort. Oh, I’d also stop by to pet the resident pup.
