The Vibe
The 208-room Hyatt Centric Brickell Miami is a classy and comfortable stay in the heart of downtown. The financial district, cruise port terminal, Miami design district and Brickell neighborhood are within easy reach.
Looking for a quick getaway from Orlando, my husband and I hopped on the Brightline train to Miami, about a three-and-a-half-hour trip. Taking the train is a convenient, relaxing alternative to driving. We took the free Miami Metromover monorail from the Miami Brightline station to the 10th Street Promenade Station and walked the remaining five minutes to the hotel. You can also catch an Uber from the train station (10 minutes) or from the airport, about 15 minutes.
Facing Biscayne Bay gives the hotel sweeping water views from the rooftop pool. Lounge chairs, pool towels, a small lending library and complimentary sunscreen make it easy to settle in for a few hours. There’s a small fitness center, and free 2-hour bike rental for guests.
How I Felt
Relaxed. From the ocean views to the friendly service, I felt welcome and relaxed. Tropical artwork, touches of Cuban décor and a comfortable lounge in the restaurant made it possible to work and feel like I was on vacation at the same time.
The Digs
Our King Deluxe room boasted a private balcony and stunning floor-to-ceiling views of the bay. A comfortable sofa with worktable and high-top table with bar stool made it easy for two people to work in the room. Multiple outlets made working efficient.
Our room was equipped with a single-serve coffee maker, a mini fridge, spacious bathroom with walk-in shower and professional quality hair dryer. The robe and slippers came in handy for sipping coffee on the balcony. The room was clean, modern, comfortable and quiet — everything you need for a good night’s rest.
The Agenda
The Hyatt Centric Brickell makes a great base for exploring downtown Miami on foot. We strolled across the bridge to Brickell Key, logging our steps amid skyscrapers and swaying palm trees.
We headed north to Bayfront Park, taking in sculptures and shops along the way. Passing through the park takes you to Bayside Marketplace, an open-air shopping and entertainment district. Here you can hop on a cruise, rent a jet ski or book a tour to Key West. It’s also a great place to pick up some souvenirs or grab a quick bite by the water. We had hoped to visit the Pérez Art Museum, with its world-class collections, but it was sold out. Book up to two weeks in advance if you plan to visit.
Miami Beach, with its sandy shores and art deco architecture is a 30-minute drive. We couldn’t resist hopping in an Uber and heading over for the day.
The Eats
A big selling point of the property is the onsite restaurant, Caña Restaurant and Lounge, awarded Gold for top Cuban restaurant in Miami by the Miami Herald. I recommend at least stopping by for a cocktail and small plates like the garlic shrimp and burrata with guava jam. You’ll also find seafood, meat and plant-based options. Enjoy a mojito in the lounge or on the patio with a peek-a-boo view of the bay.
I recommend the French toast for breakfast paired with a cappuccino, but you’re sure to find your favorite from the extensive menu. For lunch, there’s a single-serve lunch bar with rotating themes, or you can order salads and sandwiches à la carte. On the rooftop, light meals and drinks are available by the pool, weather permitting.
The blocks surrounding the hotel are filled with restaurants, from fast casual spots to fine dining. Brickell City Center and Mary Brickell Village are both about a 10-minute walk away and offer dozens of dining options.
Why I Would Go Back
I’d return for the comfortable, spacious room, warm service and onsite restaurant. The convenient location is also a plus too.
