The Vibe

Kimpton Shorebreak Huntington Beach Resort embodies beach town vibes. Located at the epicenter of Huntington Beach’s surf and city life crossway, the hotel blends its interiors with nature through open-air patios and outdoor fire pits. Neutral tones are used throughout the interior design of the hotel, creating a relaxed atmosphere and attracting laid-back visitors and those who love soaking in every moment. It’s the perfect getaway for surfers, young couples and friend groups. It’s also incredibly dog-friendly, and you will find adorable pups roaming around the hotel like they own it. In keeping with the beach vibe, the hotel has a revolving fine art photography gallery that focuses on the magic of the ocean.

How I Felt

Relaxed. Being near the ocean is an incredibly relaxing feeling. Waking up to the sound of the waves and view of the ocean (in certain rooms) releases all the stress and worries from your body. It’s also relaxing being able to bring your pet with you and knowing that they are comfortable.

The Digs

The room I stayed in had a balcony and beautiful views of the Pacific. It reminded me of a blend between surfer and hipster vibes. The colorful striped headboard with floral print chairs, neon mirrors and surf photography brought out a sense of happiness and energy every morning. The room came with a record player for soft tunes, a sound machine for restful sleep and a yoga mat for a morning (or evening) stretch.

The Agenda

Since the hotel is located on Pacific Coast Highway, steps away from Main Street, there’s a lot to do within walking distance. I explored what I like to call a hidden gem of the area, The Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum, which does an excellent job showcasing the history of surfing around the world. I took a beach yoga class at Huntington Beach’s dog beach. Yes, I got to bring my pup along too! When in California, a surfing class is a must, and there’s no better place to try than in Surf City USA. It was a lot of trial and error, but I think I may have gotten the hang of it towards the end!

Park Bench Café  is a great dog-friendly outdoor cafe

The Eats

Kimpton Shorebreak’s Pacific Hideaway restaurant is a delicious option for what they call, “après-surf.” It offers coastal cuisine with Latin and Pacific Islander influences on an outdoor patio. The morning should begin with coffee at Milk & Honey and Banzai Bowls for a breakfast acai bowl or a snack in the middle of the day. Bear Flag Fish Co. has delicious fish burritos for lunch and Park Bench Café is a great dog-friendly outdoor café that’s perfect for breakfast or lunch. Bluegold is a swanky New American restaurant, located within Pacific City outdoor complex, with a plethora of seafood options.

Why I Would Go Back

I would return because of the hotel’s incredible hospitality towards pets. I brought my four lb. pomeranian along, and he was greeted with a photo, a pet passport, a plush bed, bowls and toys in the room. When we entered our room, he hopped right in his bed as if he lived there. He loved his stay as much as we did!
