The Vibe

Sense28 Edgewater has a relaxed, modern vibe that feels more like staying in a stylish apartment than a traditional hotel. It’s comfortable and easygoing, with a clean, contemporary look and the extra space and independence that you get from an apart-hotel. The atmosphere is pretty laid-back. There’s no grand hotel formality, and you don’t feel like you’re constantly surrounded by staff or other guests. You can come and go, settle into your own routine and feel a little more like you’re actually living in the Edgewater neighborhood rather than just visiting. It’s a good mix of comfort and convenience, especially if you like having your own space and don’t need all the bells and whistles of a full-service luxury hotel.

How I Felt

Comfortable. There’s something about Senses 28 by AvantStay that makes you feel comfortable almost immediately. It doesn’t have that overly polished, impersonal feeling you sometimes get in Miami hotels, instead, it feels relaxed and a little more like you’re staying in a beautifully designed home. You can come back after a long day and actually settle in. It’s the kind of place where you very quickly stop feeling like a hotel guest and just feel at home.

The Digs

The rooms at Senses 28 have little details that make them feel more like a stylish Miami apartment than a hotel room. There are soft neutral tones, natural wood, sculptural furniture and touches of color that keep everything from feeling too minimal. I especially liked the interesting lighting and artwork.

The Agenda

Start the morning with coffee at Magdalena Coffee & Houseplants, just a few blocks from Sense28, then walk down toward Margaret Pace Park for a stroll along Biscayne Bay. Head back toward Midtown and the Design District for a little shopping and gallery hopping, or wander over to Wynwood to see the murals and browse some of the boutique shops. Spend the afternoon back at Sense28, have a swim, relax on the rooftop or just enjoy some time on your balcony before getting ready for the evening. One of the nicest things about staying in Edgewater is that you can dip into Miami’s busier neighborhoods when you want to, then come back to somewhere that feels a little quieter and more residential.

The Eats

There are plenty of great places to eat close by, but I’d put these three on the list. Manta Wynwood is a fun choice when you want something lively, the menu is Peruvian with Japanese influences, with great ceviche, tiradito and seafood, and it puts you right in Wynwood if you want to walk around afterward. Amara at Paraiso is much closer to home and great for lunch or an early dinner; get a table outside overlooking Biscayne Bay. And for a night when you feel like dressing up a bit, go to Casadonna. It’s Italian, glamorous and right on the water, with beautiful gardens and a very Miami atmosphere. Three completely different experiences, and all easy to get to from Edgewater.

Why I Would Go Back

For the chill vibe. There’s nothing like feeling like you actually live in your hotel room.
