June has become one of my favorite months of the year. Spring blossoming into summer is a great reason to love June. The fact that I became a first-time mother to my twin sons is another huge reason June’s a fav. And, the fact that I am a fierce Mama Bear ally tops it all. For those of you who don’t follow me and already know, my youngest child, who is now an adult, is a transgender woman. She is an amazing example of strength, passion, trailblazing courage, fierce loyalty, caring, compassion, talent and so much more. And to say I am full of pride for her, and my twins, is a gross understatement. I am her biggest ally, and an ally to all who identify as LGTBQ+ in the world.

June is known as Pride Month because it’s the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots that took place in NYC in 1969. Stonewall was an opportunity to peacefully protest and raise political awareness of current issues that cause injustice amongst the LGBTQ+ community. There are many resources out there if you’d like to learn more, but Pride Month 2022 offers a nice digestible overview.

As other Mama Bears know, motherhood is a journey and it’s paved with love. And when you find the community that supports and carries you and your child through the rocky times and loves you both unconditionally it’s something special. I am always happy to talk with any of you and share ideas and resources.

Speaking of Pride Month, I am thrilled that our editorial team chose “LGTBQ+ Travel’ as the June theme for The Compass. Watch for great informative and creative articles especially for LGTBQ+ destination recommendations, landmark road trips, gay cruises and even a Queer Eye filming location guide! I’m personally addicted to Queer Eye, so I’m very excited about that one especially!
