As of May 24, 2021, fully vaccinated travelers on domestic flights to Puerto Rico will no longer need to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test to gain entry to the island.
Prior to arrival, fully vaccinated travelers need to upload their vaccination card to the Puerto Rico Health Department’s online portal and will then receive a QR code that they’ll need to leave the airport. For any questions regarding the airport entry process, travelers should contact the Health Department at 939-592-5115 or infoviajeros@salud.pr.gov.
Travelers arriving on an international flight and those who have not been fully vaccinated must still provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arriving in Puerto Rico by uploading their results to the Puerto Rico Health Department’s online portal.
This update was announced in a May 20 executive order from the local government of Puerto Rico and includes more relaxed protocols around the island, including:
- Lifting the island-wide curfew
- Increased capacities of 50% for businesses like restaurants, casinos, museums and pools at hotels
- The removal of a mask requirement for fully vaccinated people in parks and on beaches
- Permission to consume alcoholic beverages in pools and on beaches
- The reopening of the island’s coliseums at 30% capacity (attendees required to present either a vaccination card or a negative antigen test to gain admission)
“Puerto Rico has prioritized health and safety from the onset of the pandemic, becoming the first U.S. destination to implement an Island-wide curfew, among other measures developed to safeguard residents and visitors. As restrictions loosen, we look forward to welcoming travelers seeking to responsibly explore our Island, immerse themselves in unforgettable culture, unique natural wonders and delicious cuisine, while taking advantage of the ease of travel that comes with Puerto Rico being a U.S. territory, including no need for a passport for U.S. citizens,” said Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico.
