RIU Hotels & Resorts Completes Refurbishment of The Gresham Dublin

RIU Hotels & Resorts (RIU) recently completed an extensive refurbishment project on Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin, the brand’s historic 4-star property in the Irish capital by the same name. The newly revamped hotel now boasts 404 renovated guestrooms and suites, top-of-the-line meeting and conference rooms, a fully-equipped fitness center, two onsite restaurants — the Gallery and Toddy’s Restaurant — and the Writer’s Lounge bar.

RIU purchased The Gresham Dublin in 2016, simultaneously making the property the oldest hotel on the brand’s ever-growing roster as the 19th-century building dates back to 1817. Adding to its historic charm is Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin’s convenient location on popular O’Connell Street, one of the city’s top spots for sightseeing offering visitors quick access to coveted attractions like the River Liffey, Croke Park, Dublin Castle, Temple Bar, Henry Street and the Convention Centre Dublin.

As an important part of Irish history, RIU understood the establishment’s significance to locals and worked to slowly increase the hotel’s accommodation capacity and roll out additional services with a special touch of sophistication and elegance in a respectful way. The hotelier also kept the property’s original name “The Gresham,” noting in a June 2024 press release that it’s a “highly complex building” and “a real architectural gem.”

Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin is outfitted to use green electrical energy, meaning all electricity consumed in the hotel comes from renewable sources. This exciting change is part of a larger initiative headed by RIU called the “Sustainable Energy Transition Plan” which was created to help the brand move toward an eco-friendly future.

The RIU Plaza city line comprises 10 hotels — Riu Plaza Panama, Riu Plaza Guadalajara, Riu Plaza Espana, Riu Plaza Miami Beach, Riu Plaza Fisherman’s Wharf, Riu Plaza New York Times Square, Riu Plaza Manhattan Times Square, Riu Plaza Berlin, Riu Plaza London Victoria and Riu Plaza The Gresham Dublin. The brand says Chicago and Toronto will be the next destinations to welcome a RIU city hotel while NYC is expected to open its third RIU Plaza establishment soon.
