The Mediterranean has always occupied a special place in my heart. During my recent time onboard Windstar’s Star Legend, I had the privilege of exploring some of Europe’s most mesmerizing coastlines and vibrant cultures. From the historic streets of Italy to the picturesque views of France, each destination offered a unique blend of history, cuisine and breathtaking scenery.

Sailing along the serene waters of the Mediterranean, my journey aboard Windstar’s Star Legend was nothing short of extraordinary. This intimate ship, accommodating just over 300 guests, offers an exclusively all-suite experience that truly redefines indulgence. From the moment I joined this beautiful vessel, I was enveloped in a world of luxury and comfort. The fantastic onboard crew, always attentive and friendly, made every moment memorable. One of the highlights was the Crew Talent Show, where the crew showcased their many talents and brief exposure of the tapestry of cultures they represent, adding a personal touch to the voyage.

As you may know, I love ocean-facing rooms while cruising. The Owner’s Suite, where I stayed, was a haven of tranquility and elegance. With its spacious layout and stunning ocean views, it was the perfect retreat after a day of exploring. To further my relaxing experience, the onboard spa provided a sanctuary of peace, offering a wide range of treatments that left me feeling rejuvenated, and ready for the following day’s adventure.

What would a cruise be without amazing culinary experiences? Each meal was an epicurean delight, with dishes crafted from fresh, local ingredients that reflected the flavors of the Mediterranean. Amphora, the exquisite main dining room onboard Star Legend, pays homage to Windstar being the Official Cruise Line of the James Beard Foundation. Here, the line has brought together the most skilled and sought-after chefs from around the world to craft nightly destination-inspired menus that highlight the freshest of seafood and locally sourced ingredients. This celebration of culinary excellence reflects the rich traditions and vibrant tastes of the Mediterranean, and was an experience I will never forget.

While away, each visited port of call held its own unique story, waiting to be uncovered as we ventured beyond the ordinary. From the ancient ruins of Rome to the charming cobblestone streets of Nice, every destination was a new adventure. Star Legend’s ability to navigate into smaller, less crowded ports allowed for a more intimate and immersive experience. This journey was not just a cruise; it was a voyage of discovery, filled with unforgettable moments and breathtaking sights.

Winter in the Mediterranean offers a mild climate, perfect for adventure on land. Windstar enhances this by allowing guests to pre-book excursions or arrange them while onboard. This seamless process enabled me to book all my excursions for the week at once. Among the many highlights, market tours with the chef quickly became my favorite. The onboard staff also excelled in assisting with curating personalized explorations while in port, ensuring each adventure was memorable and tailored to my preferences.

As I strolled the enchanting streets of Livorno, I was transported back in time to centuries-old architecture and a rich aroma of local delicacies. The western coast, with its winding rivers and horse-drawn carriages, painted a picture of both grandeur and modern excellence. The fresh open-air markets were full of life, tantalizing all senses. One of the most memorable experiences of this trip was visiting the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Just a short journey from the Port of Livorno, this ancient landmark represents the stability and timeless beauty of this remarkable region… leaving an indelible mark on my heart, and memories that I will cherish forever.
