Egypt is climbing the ranks as a bucket-list destination for travelers, and AmaWaterways is meeting the demand with the unveiling of its newest river ship, AmaLilia, set to sail the Nile River. The ship embarked on its inaugural journey in April 2024 with the 11-night itinerary taking cruise-goers on an adventure to remember with private tours, stops at historic sites and authentic onboard experiences.

Cruising seasonally from September to June, “Secrets of Egypt & the Nile” begins with three nights in beloved Cairo where guests can visit the Egyptian Museum, Pyramids of Ancient Memphis and Alabaster Sphinx. Travelers then fly out to Luxor to embark on a seven-night river cruise where they have the opportunity to explore UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Temple of Luxor and the Valley of the Kings and Queens. After all this excitement, visitors fly back to Cairo to close out their last day on this once-in-a-lifetime trip, making a special stop at the magnificent and luxurious Abdeen Presidential Palace for a private tour and gourmet lunch.

“With its rich history and legendary landmarks, Egypt is one of the most fascinating destinations in the world,” said Rudi Schreiner, president and co-founder of AmaWaterways. “The launch of our second ship in Egypt underscores our confidence in the country’s timeless appeal and the unforgettable experience it offers. We expect to see a surge in travelers eager to witness the beauty of Egypt firsthand.”

In line with the state-of-the-art standard cruise-goers have come to know and love of Amawaterways’ ships, AmaLilia accommodates 82 guests with 41 regionally decorated staterooms, including 13 suites. Onboard, travelers can find a sun deck bar and swimming pool, fitness room, hair and nail salon, massage room and two restaurants — The Chef’s Table and The Main Restaurant — serving locally inspired cuisine. To enhance this immersive experience, guests should keep an eye out for the Egyptologists who will be onboard and accompanying them on all their excursions.

“Few countries grip the imagination quite like Egypt, with its massive pyramids, secret tombs, colorful markets and the majestic Nile River coursing through it all. There is no better way to discover Egypt than by cruising the Nile,” said Kristin Karst, co-founder and executive vice president of AmaWaterways. “Now is a unique opportunity for travelers to explore Egypt with fewer tourists around, and the feedback from guests who traveled recently has been incredibly positive.”
