Festival season — and by extension, summer — is almost here, and that means travelers are gearing up for long weekend adventures filled with fun and excitement. Whether that means headbanging at a major concert or sampling new culinary delights at a food-centric gathering, the U.S. is undeniably bursting with unique (and sometimes strange) festivals that bring together people from all over the country to celebrate. June
Summerfest: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
A nine-day event spread out over the course of three consecutive weekends, Summerfest is everything a traveler could want from a Midwest music festival. The first official night kicks off on June 18 with performances by Megan Moroney and Charlie Wilson, though other notable headliners include Don Toliver, Ed Sheeran and Post Malone. In total, the event features over 600 artists across multiple stages, in addition to attractions like the SkyGlider chair lift and delicious foods around the grounds.
The Food & Wine Classic: Aspen, Colorado
For all the sophisticated and classy travelers, the Food & Wine Classic, held June 19-21, brings together world-class chefs (like Bobby Flay), sommeliers and spirit experts for a weekend of culinary fun. From a rotating selection of curated wines and cocktails at the F&W Bar to the Best New Chefs corner, which showcases the 2025 BNC class and the dishes that made them stars, this festival takes food and beverage to the next level.

NYC Pride: New York City, New York
Consistently one of the largest celebrations in the U.S., drawing in millions of visitors each year, NYC Pride is an LGBTQ+ event like no other. The main draw is the parade on the June 28, though travelers can participate in a variety of Pride events throughout the month, including drag brunch fundraisers, the PrideFest street fair and the Criminal Queerness Festival.
July
Essence Festival of Culture: New Orleans, Louisiana
An event that started back in 1995 to honor the 25th anniversary of Essence magazine, Essence Festival of Culture has since transformed into a celebration of Black womanhood, creativity, music and community. The event runs July 3-5, sponsoring nightly concerts at the Caesars Superdome with performances from beloved artists across genres like R&B, soul, funk and gospel. During the day, visitors can participate in programming that emphasizes community empowerment, entrepreneurship, wellness, beauty, fashion and more.
100th National Cherry Festival: Traverse City, Michigan
It’s hard to beat a fruit festival in the summertime, and Traverse City’s National Cherry Festival is the perfect place to indulge in some juicy pickings. This year marks the event’s 100th anniversary, and guests can celebrate from July 4-11 with markets, a classic car show, parades, carnival rides, a cherry pit spit contest and a pie-eating contest. Family-friendly programming makes this one ideal for visitors of all ages.

Maine Lobster Festival: Rockland, Maine
Where some travelers indulge in ripe fruit, others are waiting for their chance to dine on an East Coast specialty: lobster! The Maine Lobster Festival will be held from July 29-Aug. 2 at Harbor Park and includes live music, carnival rides, cooking contests, a children’s cod fish carry contest, a parade and all the crustaceans you can eat. Visitors can then finish off their weekend with a run at the local 5K and 10K races.

Lollapalooza: Chicago, Illinois
An annual festival that needs no introduction, Lollapalooza takes place from July 30-Aug. 4 this year. The event consistently features a dynamic lineup of U.S. and international artists, covering genres like rock, heavy metal, punk, EDM and hip hop. Across Grant Park’s eight stages, travelers can expect to hear from fan-favorite artists like Tate McRae, Lorde, Olivia Dean and John Summit, among many more.
WE Fest Country Music Festival: Detroit Lakes, Minnesota
Despite country being a rather controversial genre among music lovers, this particular event is still considered one of the largest music and camping combos. From Aug. 5-8, fans can jam out on the Soo Pass Ranch grounds, soaking in the sounds of Thomas Rhett, Lainey Wilson and Brooks & Dunn in the festival’s natural amphitheater. Regardless of whether travelers choose to unwind at a nearby hotel each night or return back to their campers, WE Fest is always a good boot-knocking time.

Coshocton Sunflower Festival: Coshocton, Ohio
For those who love to discover beauty in nature, the Coshocton Sunflower Festival is the place to be. Running from Aug. 14-16, guests can peruse the fields of sunflowers, snapping aesthetic pictures or even picking a few to take home. Naturally, a beer garden, food trucks and live music complete the chill atmosphere.

International Camel & Ostrich Races: Virgina City, Nevada
Even the odd and quirky deserves a moment in the spotlight, and Nevada’s International Camel & Ostrich Race is just that. Now in its 67th year, this festival is a fan-favorite for many, with both amateur and professional jockeys galloping on the backs of camels, ostriches and zebras. It’s an unconventional racing experience, and travelers can witness it for themselves from Sept. 11-13.

Realms Unknown Festival: Woodland, Washington
Transporting visitors to another world, one where all your whimsical dreams come true, Realms Unknown is a three-day all-genre fantasy festival. Taking place Sept. 18-20, the event showcases live jousting, sword fights and theatrical performances, in addition to artisan markets with handcrafted items. From meeting fairies and wizards to dining on turkey legs and mead, this festival is perfect for the wanderlusting visitor.
Bourbon & Beyond Festival: Louisville, Kentucky
Country music, bourbon and food — what more do festival-goers need from a Louisville-based event? From Sept. 24-27, travelers can sing along to hit tunes by Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton and the Foo Fighters, while indulging in bourbon from hundreds of different labels. Tastings, workshops and panels make up the experience, with culinary presentations by top celebrity chefs rounding out a vibrant weekend in Kentucky.
